Mountain Goat Reverse Helix Trommel for gold mining prospecting
Speed up your gold processing work and increase gold recovery with the Mountain Goat Reverse Helix Trommel. This machine is rightly named because it can eat almost anything and is light enough to carry up a mountain!
The Mountain Goat is efficient because the spiral riffles inside of the tube turn and bring the heavy materials up to the high end of the tube while allowing the lighter materials to flow out of the back of the tube as tailings. This system makes the trommel completely self-cleaning, which eliminates the need to break down for clean-up as is necessary with sluice box type equipment.The spiral riffles in the trommel tube are ¼ inch deep and spaced ¾ inch apart. We suggested your placer material be screened to ½ inch or less even though rocks as large as ¾ inch will pass through the tube. There is a nugget trap at the low end of the tube which should be checked regularly for nuggets larger than ¼ inch.
The front legs of the trommel are adjustable to increase the pitch but we found that the factory setting is the best for getting fine or flour gold. The factory setting has the front legs about 1 inch longer than the back legs. Tests have shown very little loss of fine gold at this setting when a wetting agent such as Jet Dry is used in the system.

Features
The Mountain Goat can be used in a tub to recirculate the water to operate the machine. That way, the water stays free of leaves, etc. that can plug the pump. A sock slipped over the pump will also keep the spray system from clogging up. Any large tray such as a mortar mixing tub (found at most home improvement stores) can be used with 5 gallons of water which is then recirculated by the 750 gallon per hour pump.
The Trommel can also be used directly in a stream and is a very sturdy machine designed to take a lot of wear and tear!
The Mountain Goat can be set up to feed directly into the Desert Fox Gold Panning Machine to make you a one-man mining operation.

The Desert Fox spiral wheel has SEVEN separate spirals which pick up GOLD SEVEN times with each rotation of the wheel (105 times per minute). The seven spirals dump gold into the tube-shaft and into a hanging gold catch-cup. This method is far superior to other types of spiral wheels which do not pass the gold through the center of the wheel into a hanging cup. The Desert Fox wheel with its pitch adjustment and water spray system helps the operator “tune out” the black sand.
The Desert Fox is a compact, light-weight gold panning machine you can take anywhere. Weighing under 10 pounds even with a rugged folding stand, it folds up and stores neatly in its Action Packer tub. Operate it right out of the tub, or remove it from the case and use it in a stream. The Desert Fox is aptly named because it was designed to conserve water and will operate on just three gallons. It sets up quickly and easily and can run 70 pounds of concentrates in an hour–it’s both a separator and a concentrator in one self-contained panning machine. Recovers an amazing amount of flour gold so you never lose even the smallest pieces (which all add up!).
The Desert Fox is easy to Use. Fill the tank with 3 to 4 gallons of water. Hook the clips to your 12-Volt battery. Turn on the switch. The wheel starts to rotate and water sprays from the spray bar onto the wheel. Add a scoop of sand every 20 seconds. The GOLD settles to the bottom as the spiral turns and the seven spiral leads pick it up and elevate it to the center hole in the hub where it passes through the hollow shaft into a gold catch cup! It is as simple as that and so user-friendly that you will be an expert gold panner ten minutes after you have used the DESERT FOX for the first time.
Operates on any 12-volt 7-amp DC power source. Use an automotive battery or even a 35 watt solar panel. Ships complete with an easy-to-understand owner’s manual and a video, but this machine is so easy to operate you won’t need them to become a pro! A bag of practice sand containing real placer gold is also shipped with every Desert Fox so you can get acquainted with your new machine and see how efficient and easy it is to use.

Shipping is FREE on all orders within the Contiguous United States. Outside of the Contiguous United States, please place your order in the Shopping Cart to view shipping charges.
Shipment / Transit time
Detector Experts makes every effort to get your order to you as soon as possible. Orders for in-stock items placed on business days before 3:00 PM ET (Eastern Time) are generally shipped the same day (subject to verification). Please note weekend orders, placed on Fridays after 1:00 PM ET will be processed on the following Monday. If there is a problem with your order, you will receive an e-mail within one business day to advise you about the situation.
Used items:
Most orders get shipped the same day if received, processed and verified by 1:00 P.M. ET (Eastern Time) Monday – Friday. Orders received after these times or those which require verification (see below) will be processed the next business day.
Delivery of Oversize items:
Oversize items that are required to ship via truck due to their size or weight, generally take an extra day to ship. The average delivery time is 7-10 business days. Rural or remote delivery locations can sometimes take slightly longer.
All truck deliveries are made by appointment which must be scheduled in advance. The carrier will reach out to you by phone or email to set up this appointment. An adult must be available to receive, inspect, and sign for the merchandise at the time of delivery. A rescheduling fee may be applied for a missed delivery appointment, subject to carrier policy.
All deliveries are to the threshold of your location during standard business hours. White glove, inside delivery, evening, early morning, or weekend deliveries are sometimes able to be scheduled with the carrier for an additional cost. Detector Experts cannot guarantee the availability or cover the additional cost of these extra services.
Truck deliveries are unavailable to PO boxes, APO/FPO locations, or outside of the continental 48 states.
Signature Required
A signature is required for most shipments upon receipt. An adult must be at the address to receive the package and sign for it. Packages cannot be rerouted or picked up from UPS. If UPS is unable to successfully deliver your package they may bring your package to a UPS Access Point or they will re-attempt delivery up to 3 times, at their discretion.

Damaged or missing items upon delivery
Damaged in delivery: If there is damage to the package, or if merchandise is missing, please keep the original shipping carton and contact us immediately so we can issue a damage claim with the carrier. Please don’t return the merchandise without going through these steps, as it delays the replacement of the order or the issuance of a credit.
Missing items: All missing items claims must be reported within five business days of delivery. Contact us to report a missing item from your shipment.
Oversize truck deliveries: Oversize items shipped by Truck are delivered by appointment which needs to be scheduled with carrier in advance. At time of delivery, an adult must be available to receive, inspect, and sign for the merchandise. Please inspect the item to be sure it is the correct model, in operable condition, and not damaged in any way. Do not sign the delivery manifest until you have inspected the item. Once the delivery manifest is signed, we are unable to file any damage claim with the carrier on your behalf. Once you sign for the item, you are accepting the product as is.
If the merchandise is damaged, please make a notation on the delivery manifest, and have the person delivering the merchandise sign as well. Contact us within 48 business hours to report the damage.
International Shipping
Yes, Detector Experts ships throughout the U.S., Canada and to over 200 countries worldwide where allowed by the Manufacturer. International shipments are subject to import fees, duties, and taxes (which are levied once a shipment reaches the destination country) in addition to the brokerage fees/custom clearance charges that may be imposed by the carrier. These charges must be borne by the recipient. Detector Experts has no control over these charges and cannot predict what they might be.
Due to high international shipping costs, taxes, and duty fees, we cannot ship any order that includes backordered items. We will hold the order until all items are in stock and available to ship. Please contact us if you wish to cancel or change these items.
If an international shipment is refused and/or returned, any taxes, duties, custom fees, brokerage fees, or shipping charges incurred from this return will be the responsibility of the customer.
